1967 PLYMOUTH HEMI SATELITE

FINISHED PROJECT. REMOVED ORIGINAL 383, 727 TRANSMISSION, AND EXHAUST SYSTEM…INSTALLED NEW 500 HP HEMI AND KEISLER ENGINEERING 5 SP TRANSMISSION KIT…INSTALLED NEW TTI HEADERS AND EXHAUST SYSTEM…RETROFIT CONSOLE FOR PERFECT FIT.

Hemi power, a Keisler 5 speed, bright silver paint and attitude everywhere—need we say more? Black buckets and a center console stand front and center in the interior, Torq Thrust wheels are at the corners and a big ‘ol Super Stock hood scoop’s on top—this ’67 Satellite has what it takes on the street and at the shows!
Two 1967 Plymouth B bodies, in two completely different venues, ran rampant over their competitors. Richard Petty’s bright blue car won an untouchable 10 races in a row and 27 overall on the oval tracks in the south. There won’t be another season like that, ever. A little more underground, and a couple years later, a certain silver model tore
Detroit street
racers to pieces. Its nickname was Silver Bullet, owned by Jimmy Addison. Originally a test mule for Chrysler’s Hustle Stuff catalog, the car was given to Jimmy (well known for his tuning skills) to terrorize
Woodward Avenue
. Jimmy never lost a race, while Chrysler engineers used the car as a skunkworks project for product development. While the super clean Satellite shown here might not be the true ‘bullet, that big Hemi under the hood is capable of the same mayhem the original caused 30 years ago!
We’ll start with that Hemi under the hood—where else could we on a beast like this? Originally a 383 2bbl car this one went all the way to pachyderm power courtesy of a BIG HEMI-spec, Muscle Motors built 426 cubic incher. Proving a hemi doesn’t take radical parts to produce big power, BIG HEMI selected a .230/.244 .513/.507 Comp Cams hydraulic stick for drivability, an all new, all Mopar motor complete with a pair of Edelbrocks on top and TTI headers. Doesn’t sound like much? The dyno at Muscle begs to differ: 501.7HP@6000rpm and 498lbs/ft@4500rpm equals FAR more than the sum of the parts! The torque curve is a fat one, too—there’s more than 470lbs/ft available from 3200 to 5500rpm! That’ll get you moving! Supporting roles go to Mopar’s electronic ignition with an orange box ECU, a high flow water pump with a recored 26” radiator and a new Antique Auto Battery group 27 red cap battery. New belts, hoses and wiring means trouble free motoring to your favorite hangout spot or a cross country run!
Drop into the restored interior. Re-stuffed seats with new covers are both comfortable and good looking. The center console is new from Tony’s Parts while the top plates are new BE/A units. That big stick in the console is part of Keisler’s kit installed by BIG HEMI, bolted to the TREMEC TKO transmission below. You’ve got a nice new Grant tuff wheel in your hands, and you can place it anywhere you like thanks to the chrome tilt Ididit column from XV Motorsports. The dash pad is mint, the dash frame’s repainted and gauge bezels are re-chromed. The door panels are new, as is the carpet, Satellite-embroidered floor mats and the headliner. AM stations are pulled in well by the rebuilt factory radio, pedal dress up pieces add shine down low and Auto Meter gauges under the center of the dash and the tach on the column keep you informed. This is a well sorted, comfortable interior that’s a great place to spend time!
Trying to determine what’s new and what’s not I delved into the massive pile of receipts. The previous owners told me that they bought the car “90% done” and didn’t realize the amount of time, effort and money it takes to push beyond that. There are receipts for no fewer than three alignments, all new shocks and front suspension components, brake jobs and adjustments. There are receipts for lenses, trim, plating, blasting…and all of this was for a car that was already painted and had new upholstery! Then we took the car and added the Hemi and the TKO—suffice to say there’s more than a few dollars wrapped up in this car!
PPG paint covers the body with four coats of clear that have been hand rubbed flat. New emblems and new chrome bumpers join a very nice grille up front and a clean tail panel and taillight set out back. The laser straight body looks awesome from any angle, and the trim is a gleaming partner to the silver’s brilliance. The hood on the car is a brand new, reinforced fiberglass piece, painted and cleared inside and out, with the big scoop up top. We didn’t cut any holes for carb air as one drive in a rainstorm can really mess things up under hood. We also have the stock, painted flat hood if you’re into the “stealth” look. New headlight bulbs up front light the way while new taillight lenses in re-chromed housings out back bring up the rear. 215/70/15 tires wrap American Racing Torq Thrust wheels for an awesome nostalgic look. Sit behind the wheel, smile, and imagine you’re tearing up Woodward!
Underneath you’ll find super clean sheet metal finished in satin black. Poloroids (yes, really) of the bodywork show nothing more than a 2” diameter hole in the passenger quarter panel as the only rust damage, so this guy was clean! Of course the jewel under here is the TKO 5 speed which allows for hard launches and low RPM cruising, and the shifting is better than any old car ever was! The suspension’s tight and the car drives really well. Power steering means a light touch at the wheel while the well adjusted drums stop evenly and have excellent pedal feel. The new TTI exhaust system with H pipe is brand new and sounds great without being intrusive. Splatter paint in the trunk makes for a nice and clean compartment for the jack and spare.
A sorted chassis, a comfortable interior, HEMI power, an overdrive 5 speed and nostalgic looks add up to a whopper of a car that’ll be a hit from Wednesday drags to Sunday cruises!
